Hello beautiful babes! Happy Wednesday, I’ve missed you guys so much and I apologize for the lack of posts the last week. I’ve been super busy because my LDR boyfriend came to visit and obviously I would want to spend every waking moment with him and my family. But I’ve also been itching to write a new post for a while now so I’m so happy to review the Pur Cosmetics Pro Palette in collaborations with Etienne Ortega. This palette was actually sent to me for reviewing purposes – I just wanted to disclose that, but understand that I am always honest with my reviews.
Getting an overview of the palette I think that it is absolutely stunning, a ton of neutrals with pops of colours and a good variety of mattes and shimmers. I like how the palette also transitions from warm tones to cool tones so it covers all basis. You get a total of 18 shadows which is an amazing deal when the price of the palette retails for $42 USD / $54 CAD. The dimensions of the palette is a little bigger than I would like it to be, it seems that it isn’t too travel-friendly or can fit easily into your makeup bag, but it does have a very large mirror which is always nice. What I love about PUR cosmetics is that their products are 100% cruelty-free, and as a fur momma I always support companies who are against testing against animals, but furthermore, they’re also paraben free, vegan, BPA free and gluten free, which honestly is a LOT people ask for and I highly appreciate. That being said, it does take away from quality just a little bit, and let me tell you why.
When swatching this palette, I found the shimmery shades were very pigmented and buttery and adored them a ton. However, the matte shades seemed a bit more patchy when swatching as well as blending. There were a few shades that looked gorgeous in the pan yet when I swatched and blended it out I found them a tad bit disappointing, like Paradise and especially Billionaire. Billionaire seemed like a shimmery olive shade but when swatched it seemed more like a muddy brown. I wanted it to be a bit more vibrant, just like Paradise. Looking at the palette again, I feel like the warmer shades really excelled whereas the cool tones were a little lacklustre. I really appreciated all the neutral shades, but I wish Galaxy was a different colour because it felt like a repeat colour when they already had a very pigmented gorgeous matte black shade.
I felt like there was some difficulty when it came to blending, as some of the shades ended up melding together and running a bit muddy (even though there’s actually a colour named Muddy in the palette), the initial attempt of using this palette I ended up removing all my eyeshadow and redoing it because I didn’t enjoy how it looked. You can actually over blend with these shadows so be careful. There wasn’t too much fallout however which was very nice, but as I wore my makeup throughout the day (We had a date night so the makeup was on for a total amount of 10 hours), I felt as though my eyeshadow started to melt and oxidize, and it ended up looking like a hot mess by the time I got home. I don’t own Pur Cosmetics primer as it was recommended to be used together, so that may have been a factor but I personally am picky with my primers so I don’t think it was too much of an issue.
My overall thoughts? I had mixed feelings at first about the palette – I couldn’t tell if I appreciated it or felt that it was too much of a hassle. I think some of the shades were a hit or miss. But do I think it was worth it? For the price point, yes. For the vegan ingredients and the fact that it’s animal cruelty-free? Yes! Honestly, I think this palette is best used for more natural looks with a pop of colour, and with very soft blending technique. I applaud Pur cosmetics for the quality of the shadows with the ingredients and no preservatives they used in their shadows, not all companies do that and I firmly believe that more of them should. If used properly, I think they palette can be a holy grail for a ton of people!
